CHARACTER
Name: Sanosuke Harada
Canon: Hakuouki
Age: 26
Timeline: -
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: -

Personality: If there's one thing that separates Harada from the other members of the Shinsengumi, it's how he treats others and how he comes across to everyone. He's the tallest member, as well as one of the biggest, and yet at the same time he's someone that's the least threatening. The way he talks to people is in a kind and caring way, he often times speaks in a tone and remarks in a manner that could calm someone down just from how gentle he is. Chizuru often describes him as having a big heart as well, someone that's warm due to just how much he cares about certain individuals. He's a good friend to most as well, extremely loyal to the Shinsengumi and the other members in it. One of his best friends is a man named Shinpachi Nagakura, and the two of them, along with Heisuke Toudou, form a self-proclaimed group that they dubbed the "idiot trio." They call themselves that just from how much the three of them hang out and go drinking together, getting into the craziest of adventures. He's very close with both of them and often watches their backs, and Nagakura mentioned that Harada is someone that he trusts entirely and would want on his side more than anything. If someone asks it, Harada would do his best not to let them down and would be there for them no matter what.

Being one of the members of this organization, he is of course a skilled samurai. Although he does know how to use a sword, quite well, he prefers fighting with a spear more so than anything. It's his weapon of choice and he's rarely ever seen using his sword. With it, he has a much longer range than the other members that use swords, and even though he's rather large and tall- he's very quick with the weapon. His skills aren't to be mocked or underestimated, because while he's nothing more than a human, there is a demon in his route that constantly shows up, and the two of them fight one another quite often. He proves on more than one occasion that he's able to handle himself when it comes to dealing with a powerful foe like a demon, able to stay on par with him. He is beaten down a couple times, but in the end he's far stronger than any other samurai, and he doesn't need the power of the ochimizu to do it like the other members that were guilty of drinking it.

Unlike other samurai where their dream is to simply do whatever they can, to either serve the shogun or the emperor, Harada has a different dream in mind. One of the most important things to him, a dream that he wishes to experience, is that one day he wants to leave the life of killing behind and he wants to start a family with a woman that he loves. Since he's so kind and caring he's also someone that values family above all, and he knows that if he really wants to pursue such a dream it would have to be with someone he loves more than anything. On his route he mentions to Chizuru his dream, and she says that he should just do it- but he knows that if he wants that as a dream he would really have to leave everyone else behind since all that isn't suited to the type of life he wishes to lead one day. However, he informs Chizuru that he would be willing to leave everyone behind for her, and it just goes to show that when Harada deeply cares for someone, especially when he loves them, he's willing to go that extra mile and do anything and everything for them, as long as his most important person is happy then he is as well. He gets into a fight with Nagakura about this as well when he tries to leave, and he fights him and proves that even though he's best friends with Nagakura, he's willing to fight him and leave all that behind for the woman he loves and someone he wants to spend the rest of his life with.

One of the most obvious features about Harada is how he jokes around with others, especially with other ladies. He's a massive flirt, someone that knows exactly what to say to a woman, how to be overly nice to them and how to get them to blush easily. There are several times when he says something to Chizuru to get her to blush, comments like asking her to lay in his lap, or saying that he wanted to hold her hand, of course one comment that definitely got her to blush was when she first appeared to the men of the group. She was posing as a boy, but of course Harada is also a perceptive individual as well, he saw right through her disguise and he started to tease her, saying that if they really wanted to prove if she was a girl or not that they should just strip her down. He wasn't being serious of course, Harada would never advance on a woman like that, he's not an overly forceful person in that department. Nagakura often complains about Harada's popularity as well, saying that he's jealous of how he always seems to attract the women and that Nagakura doesn't get them nearly as much as he does. Harada isn't overly aware of his status with the ladies either however, he simply waves off Nagakura whenever he says such a thing. With how caring he is, it doesn't matter what kind of person he's with, be it a lover or friend, he's not someone that's overly judgmental. Such is evident when Chizuru feels horrible about herself for being a demon while Harada is still human, and he keeps telling her it doesn't matter and he loves her no matter what, and even when she tells him to off with other human girls, he refuses.

One disadvantage of being so kind and caring would be the fact that he's too honest, he's unable to lie, especially on command. He's hardly a very good actor, and when it comes down to it he would stumble over his words if he had to lie, and would sooner want to turn to another member of the Shinsengumi before attempting to come up with a story to cover up anything going on. While he is overly honest however, he's also someone that would get something done if he absolutely had to, he would be determined to carry out something he believed in or supported. Like when the beginning events of the Shinsengumi were happening, they had all agreed it was necessary to kill Serizawa, and he was in full support of it, going along with it and not opposing an assassination. Harada has no problems killing people that deserve it, and he doesn't get bothered by spilling blood of certain individuals.

Harada's temper is something to take into consideration as well, it doesn't show up very often but when it does he doesn't hold back much. When it comes to guys, Harada lets them have it if they deserve it, a good example of this is in Reimeiroku when Ryunosuke told Harada why a girl was mad at him, Harada took it upon himself to beat the guy over the head and get after him for his wrongdoing, making the guy apologize before letting him off the hook. His temper and stubborn attitude have gotten him into trouble before, like far before he joined the Shinsengumi, a man had challenged him and said that he had no honor, claiming that he couldn't even do something like commit honorable suicide. Harada, being unable to back down from such a dare, smiled at the man and he grabbed his sword, and he actually did cut open his belly. Of course, he didn't actually die, but he's rather proud of his scar and often talks about it, even making it the center of jokes and whatnot.

Abilities: Harada is a samurai, a captain in the military group known as the Shinsenumi. He can wield a sword, his fighting skills are above average with the sword, however he vastly prefers using a spear and he's much better with it. Everyone seems to know that he's famous for using the spear, it was said he was the greatest spear wielder in Kyoto, and when he's up against a katana he's the one to come out on top. At one point he had a face off with Saitou, one of the strongest members of the Shinsengumi, and he lost when he was forced to use a sword, however he became victorious when he was able to use a spear instead, indicating that he could very well be the strongest in the group when he has such a weapon in his hand. He's a good fighter and he's quick, but other than that he's just a regular human.

First Person: [it seems as though a certain samurai doesn't realize that the feed turned on by itself. there's some shuffling around and eventually he speaks.]

...Aah? That's kind of a personal question, don't you think?

[he chuckles, but it doesn't seem like he was put off by the question someone had just asked him.]

This scar came from when I was young and when I thought I could take on the world. Heh, I got into a lot of fights, some were pretty brutal but hey- that's just how it all works out, y'know? Some fellow said I wasn't man enough to cut open my belly and like hell I was going to let him just walk all over me.

Haha! Should have seen the man's eyes, they went so wide when I took out my kodachi and sit on the ground in front of him, undid my kimono and-...

[harada trailed off since everyone knew where the story was going anyways.]

...Well, you get the picture. Yeah yeah I sure did a number to my stomach, but guess I just didn't go in deep enough, recovered and now I have a lovely reminder on my belly. Makes for a pretty good party trick though, I'll have to show you sometime.

[yet another bark of laughter left him.]

Did it hurt-? Not really, I've had to endure a friendship with Shinpachi, I can put up with anything.

[he was joking, honestly.]

Third Person:

As Harada stared up at the night sky, watching the petals as they fell from the tree he was leaning against there was a distinct smile on his face. It wasn't a sarcastic smirk, no it was genuine, an honest feeling moving through him as he sat there and took in the scenery.

It was that time again, time to watch the cherry blossoms, the changing of the seasons and it was one of his favorite times. He would sit there with his friends, especially Nagakura was at his side. Harada brought the cup of sake up to his lips, tilting the contents back slightly and he sipped at the alcohol. He could feel the warmth from the liquid move through him, calming him down and made him feel ultimately relaxed.

"Oi.... Shinpachi."

He didn't look over at his friend, he still stared up at the trees, "...don't get uptight about me sayin' this, but I'm not too sure if we'll be able to do this again next year. Do you-..."

As Harada glanced over at his best friend, he noticed the man had a little too much alcohol, already, and was passed out on the grass, bottle in hand. The redheaded man stared, but then he just shrugged, knowing full well that this was what his best friend was like. The political movements were changing, everyone was taking different sides, he could tell, they would have much less time together and would have to focus on other things.

So... he wanted to take in this moment as best he could, engrave it into his mind, he wasn't one for nostalgia but at the same time this feeling he got from sharing such beauty with his friends would push him forward, get him to stick by his ideals and keep him moving.

"If only I had a woman to share this scene with, however..."

He smiled again, but that's because he was already thinking about a certain member of the Shinsengumi that joined not too long ago, and she might find this view to be lovely.
